SPECIAL EVENT STATIONS
Part of the fun and challenge of
ham radio, is making a contact with a station that everyone else is trying
to work. That can very well cause a pile up of stations calling. This was
the case when our Sumter County citizen was inaugurated as 39th President
of the United States. The Albany club put together the rigs, and obtained
the special call sign, & were on the air from Plains,GA during that
week. Tnx to Leon-K4GCR for the shot of the certificate, & Walt WA4HGS
for info, & pic's on this one. Five Americus ARA hams helped out as
well. (RDO,LHH,ZHT,UFD,& RWS) If you were fortunate enough to be one
of the 1,700 contacts on 80 & 20 meters in 50 states and 3 foreign countries,
the QSL or certificate below was sent to you. What a collectors item now!
Thought
this one was sorta unusual in that it was a special event station set up by
the Poughkeepsie Amateur Radio club in Samuel Morse's home town in Poughkeepsie,
NY. Some of you "non-CW" fans would not have gone out of the way to
try and work this one! Got them on 15 mtrs.
Try to work some Special Event stations....you'll
be glad you did.

More Special Event Stations....
Here's a few more that we've worked over the years, that to me, are neat to
have.
This
is one that was done by the Atlanta Radio Club on the week that they were looking
for Hank Aaron, to break Babe Ruth's home run record. Their station was set
up at the ball park, and kept them busy making contacts. I worked them on 75
meters.
This
is one done by the Marshall Space Center, and the Huntsville Amateur Radio Club
during the launch and time of Apollo 17, the first night launch, and final moon
landing in the Apollo program.
This
one was done by Special Event Station KE7PE. I worked them on 20 meters, and
was glad to get the certificate.
